The latest trends in aesthetic medicine treatments: what's new?

June 10, 2024 Linda News and Updates 112
Ksurgery_skinbooster_point

Aesthetic medicine is constantly evolving, driven by scientific research and growing patient expectations. In recent years, new trends have emerged that emphasize prevention and skin longevity, non-surgical facelifts with fillers, and preventative biostimulation. Let's explore these innovations and their impact on the fields of beauty and wellness.

Prevention and Skin Longevity

"Skin longevity" has become a buzzword in modern aesthetic medicine. Indeed, it's well known that the secret to keeping skin fresh, hydrated, and healthy for a long time lies precisely in prevention. Skin longevity relies on adopting a consistent and comprehensive preventative skin care routine, including products tailored to individual needs, thus preserving skin's beauty over time, keeping it supple and radiant. Among the most common techniques are the use of deeply acting antioxidant and regenerating products. These nutrient-based treatments are designed to stimulate cell renewal and fight free radicals, the main culprits of skin aging. This proactive approach not only masks the signs of aging but also helps prevent the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots.

Lifting Effect Without Surgery Thanks to Fillers

Another trend is the non-surgical lifting effect. Dermal fillers can work synergistically to restore facial contours, achieving stunning results with minimal downtime. Fillers, particularly those based on hyaluronic acid, have a filling effect that supports tissue. When applied correctly to specific areas such as the mandibular angle, temples, lateral cheekbones, and tragus, they can pull tissue upward, effectively correcting critical facial areas. This allows for filling in wrinkles, lifting the cheeks, and defining the jawline. This technique has a unique lifting effect, redefining facial contours with extreme naturalness, without weighing them down, reducing the signs of aging without altering facial expression. Furthermore, filler treatments are customizable and can be adapted to the specific needs of each patient, ensuring a tailored result.

Preventive Biostimulation

Preventive biostimulation represents a further step forward in aesthetic medicine. This approach is based on the use of biocompatible substances that the body can no longer synthesize naturally or in sufficient quantities, to stimulate microcirculation and cellular regeneration, giving the skin greater firmness, luminosity, and elasticity. In their absence or decline, the skin ages. This is why biostimulation not only improves the skin's appearance, making it firmer and more radiant, but also acts deeply, strengthening the skin's structure and preventing future damage. It is an ideal solution for those who wish to maintain youthful and healthy skin over time, intervening before the signs of aging become evident.

The latest trends in aesthetic medicine treatments are transforming the way we care for our skin. Skin care and enhancement are now central to the process, a fundamental pillar of authentic and lasting beauty. It's no longer just about correcting wrinkles or imperfections, but rather adopting a proactive and personalized approach that embraces prevention, skin longevity, and innovative solutions such as non-surgical fillers and preventative biostimulation.

Clinical photography: documenting and evaluating the results of medical-aesthetic treatments

November 29, 2023 Linda Ksurgery MED, News and Updates 116

Clinical photography is an essential pillar in documenting and monitoring aesthetic medicine treatments. The use of pre- and post-treatment photos not only documents the patient's progress but also serves as a fundamental tool for medical records, medical analysis, and scientific dissemination.

Methodology and Precision

To obtain high-quality clinical photos it is important to follow a standardized approach, the key points of which to consider are:

  • Uniform lighting: essential to ensure a faithful reproduction of reality. Ideally, use uniform natural or artificial light, without shadows or reflections.
  • Neutral background: A solid background, light or dark, helps highlight your subject and reduce distractions.
  • Multiple viewpoints: Taking photos from different angles allows you to highlight details and particulars.
  • Remove makeup and jewelry: These external influences can alter the natural appearance of the face and body, compromising the accuracy of the treatment analysis.

Recommended Photographic Tools

Choosing a smartphone for clinical photography is recommended for its convenience and ability to capture high-quality images. It's essential to ensure the smartphone has features such as a camera of at least 12 megapixels with optical image stabilization, autofocus, and macro mode.

Photographic Technique

Shooting technique is crucial to achieving high-quality photographs. It's advisable to maintain a grid over the image for a proportionate and subject-centered framing. Consistent use of settings and the same equipment for pre- and post-processing ensures consistent and comparable documentation.

Archive organization

For image storage, using external hard drives with adequate capacity and a storage structure is essential. Creating patient folders with clear and specific data will facilitate case consultation and identification. Furthermore, for privacy , it's best to avoid cloud storage and instead use physically protected hard drives.

Practical tips

To optimize time and ensure satisfactory results, it is recommended:

  • Preparing the patient: Before taking photos, it is important to prepare the patient, explaining what to do and how to position themselves.
  • Take a test shot: Before taking your final photos, it's a good idea to take a test shot to check the lighting, composition, and focus.
  • Reviewing Photos: After taking photos, it is important to review them carefully to ensure they are high quality and properly document the case.

Privacy and Clinical Photography: Rights and Responsibilities

Clinical photography is an essential discipline for documenting and monitoring medical-aesthetic treatments. However, the dissemination of sensitive images may raise privacy concerns.

Informed consent

The first step in ensuring patient privacy is obtaining informed consent, a written document that explains to the patient the purposes of the photography, how the images will be used, and their rights, including the right to withdraw consent at any time.

Clinical photographs can be used for various purposes, such as documenting clinical cases, disseminating scientific information, or promoting professional practice. It's important to specify the purpose of the photography in the informed consent form, so that the patient can make an informed decision about whether or not to give consent.

An important resource for aesthetic medicine

Clinical photography is a valuable tool for aesthetic medicine. To achieve optimal results, it requires a combination of technical precision, appropriate tools, and careful data organization. Following the tips above ensures that clinical images are used appropriately, providing physicians with valuable information for patient monitoring, medical analysis , and scientific dissemination.

Aesthetic medicine among young people: a growing trend

November 6, 2023 Linda Ksurgery MED, News and Updates 113

The demand for aesthetic treatments among young people is increasing, both in Italy and around the world. This trend is due to several factors, including the growing attention paid to social media, which exposes young people to images of idealized beauty, and the increased focus on physical and mental well-being.

According to official estimates released by Sicpre (Italian Society of Reconstructive-Regenerative and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), aesthetic medicine and surgery treatments have increased by at least 20% in the last year (+67% compared to 2019 and +130% compared to 2020).

A study conducted in 2018 [1] states that as many as 73% of Italian adolescents declared that they had used aesthetic treatments to correct the most common defects, such as acne , stretch marks and scars . But requests for treatments to improve the appearance of the face, such as lip fillers and rhinofillers , are also increasing .

Ethical concerns

In an era where personal image is fundamental and has assumed a central role in daily life, leading young people to seek solutions to improve it, this increased demand for aesthetic treatments among adolescents raises certain ethical concerns, requiring aesthetic medicine professionals to make a careful and informed assessment.

Psychological and emotional assessment

The psychological well-being of young people is key. Patients' emotional and psychological state, as well as their motivations.

An effective tool for this purpose is the DAS-59 (Derriford Appearance Scale)[2], which evaluates psychological difficulties and discomfort related to appearance, which consists of subjecting the patient to adequate counseling, divided into several sessions and involving, in some specific cases, also the family members. This multidisciplinary approach is necessary considering the complex issues related to the risk-benefit assessment and the decision-making process of young patients.

The importance of ethics

From an ethical standpoint, aesthetic procedures should not be excessively invasive and distorting. Aesthetic medicine treatments should aim to improve patients' livesby reducing discomfort related to their appearance and improving their psychological balance, promoting social, emotional, and professional integration.

Psychological and psychopathological aspects

Reflecting on physical and mental well-being is of primary importance, especially in an era where appearance is often emphasized on social media. psychological disorders are increasingly common among young people, significantly impacting their self-esteem and well-being. Therefore, assessing apatient's suitability for aesthetic treatments is essential to ensure their peaceful social interaction.

Conclusions

In conclusion, while the relationship between young people and aesthetic medicine is changing significantly, it is essential that aesthetic medicine professionals approach it in a multidisciplinary manner, carefully evaluating patients' motivations and focusing on improving their psychophysical well-being, rather than pursuing unrealistic beauty ideals.

Revitalizing fillers for immediate rejuvenation

October 27, 2021 Marta Skincare, News and novelties 123

Among the numerous biorevitalizing techniques offered in aesthetic medicine centers, revitalizing fillers certainly hold a special place: a minimally invasive technique that allows patients to receive a true hydration boost through microinjections , resulting in increased facial radiance and improved skin tone

How facial revitalization works

Revitalization is an aesthetic medicine methodology based on deep hydration of the skin, aimed at improving the aesthetic appearance of the face.

Revitalizing treatments therefore aim to restore the skin's proper structure, providing the skin with a surplus of hyaluronic acid and simultaneously stimulating the regeneration of collagen and elastin. These three substances naturally and progressively decrease as the patient ages, and are in fact the main cause of chronoaging, or skin aging, and its effects.

Immediate results

The ultimate goal of facial revitalization is to rejuvenate the face. This is achieved by rapidly improving numerous skin blemishes, supporting:

  • better hydration
  • the increase in brightness
  • an increase in skin tone
  • reduction of fine wrinkles and expression lines
  • improvement of photoaging damage

The areas mainly treated by aesthetic doctors are the face, neck and décolleté as well as the hands.

facial revitalization

All the objectives of revitalizing fillers

Biorevitalizing fillers, like any revitalizing treatment, act onskin aging, visible in the form of sagging and the associated formation of fine lines and wrinkles, especially on the face, neck, décolleté, and hands. This alteration generally results in dehydration of the skin, which appears drier, more irritated, and flaky.

This revitalizing technique is performed with a series of subcutaneous microinjections of hyaluronic acid , which work to ensure excellent moisture balance. Injected by a professional in the right quantities and in the right areas, the fillers achieve what is known as a effect soft-lifting, giving the face a rejuvenated yet natural appearance.

Revitalizing fillers: what are the benefits?

Revitalizing fillers help rehydrate the face, neck, décolleté, and hands through revitalizing micro injections of hyaluronic acid.

Among the main benefits of injections are the harmonious and natural results that do not give artificiality to our facial expression, and the fact that they are generally painless.

Finally, their method is less invasive, with fewer side effects and immediately visible results.

revitalizing injections

Revitalizing fillers: from what age?

Biorevitalization in aesthetic medicine is a treatment indicated even at a young age, to counteract the first signs of skin aging and compensate for the effects of photoaging (such as free radicals, smoke, smog, etc.).

From the age of 25 onwards, when the first signs of skin aging begin to appear, it presents itself as a quick and non-invasive treatment to increase hydration, brightness and firmness of the skin.

Opéra REV | Revitalizing filler for doctors

Opéra Rev is a revitalizing filler designed to correct minor facial depressions and skin blemishes. Flaws and areas particularly suitable: Photoaging and chronoaging of the face, asphyxiated and dehydrated skin.

Peeling for aesthetic medicine: acids, actions, and benefits

July 7, 2021 Marta Skincare, News and novelties 120

Peeling is a professional method used to thin and improve the appearance of the skin by exploiting its potential for renewal. Let's discover the characteristics that distinguish aesthetic medicine peels from other professional peels and how the acids most commonly used in this type of treatment work.

peeling for aesthetic medicine

Chemical peels: discover the mechanisms of action

The application of a peel for aesthetic medicine creates visible changes in the skin through three mechanisms of action:

  1. Stimulation of cell turnover through the removal of dead cells from the stratum corneum
  2. The elimination of damaged and degenerated epidermal cells, which will be replaced by new epidermal cells
  3. The introduction of an inflammatory reaction that will allow the activation of the production of new collagen fibers and revitalizing mechanisms of the dermis.

What is meant by controlled application?

The controlled application of acidic solutions, which can more rapidly remove the outer layers of the skin, stimulates a cascade reaction that reawakens sluggish cellular activity. In other words, aesthetic peels cause minimal damage to the skin's surface structures.

Each time this technique is applied, a controlled repair process occurs , resulting in skin renewal. Its depth of action is closely linked to the concentration used, the number of passes, and the contact time with the skin's surface.

Chemical peels to restore tone and brightness to the face

To begin with, this type of treatment encompasses a very broad spectrum of blemishes and benefits. Within aesthetic medicine, peels are recommended to assist in the treatment of keratosis, lentigo solaris, pigmentation disorders, chloasma/melasma, acne, sebaceous hyperplasia, superficial scars, and superficial wrinkles.

At the same time, chemical peels, thanks to their multi-action, are capable of restoring tone, freshness and luminosity to the face and reducing the damage caused by chrono and photoaging.

The main acids used in chemical peels

Finally, let's find out together which are the most used acids in peeling formulations for aesthetic medicine

Glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is a member of the alpha hydroxy acid family. Originally extracted from sugar cane, beetroot, and unripe grapes, glycolic acid has a very small molecular weight, giving it intense ability to penetrate the epidermal layers. This acid has a dual mode of action:

1. Exfoliates the superficial layer of the skin, facilitating cell turnover, resulting in thinning of the stratum corneum and hydration of the dermis

2. Activates the multiplication of epidermal cells by promoting an increase in the stratum spinosum and an increase in the production of collagen and elastin fibers.

Glycolic acid: benefits and results

  • Reactivates cellular metabolism
  • Facilitates the penetration of other active ingredients
  • It acts positively, directly and indirectly, on many biochemical processes of the skin
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Induction of inflammatory processes in the deeper layers of the epidermis, essential for the deposition of neo-collagen and components of the extracellular matrix (hyaluronic acid, acid mucopolysaccharides) and for the qualitative improvement of elastic fibres
DISCOVER THE PRODUCT GLYCOLIC 50

Mandelic acid

Mandelic acid, or amygdalin, is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from the hydrolysis of bitter almond extract. Mandelic acid has excellent exfoliating properties without causing burning sensations or significant redness . It is particularly effective in reactivating and repairing the skin and has excellent depigmenting properties , also demonstrated on freckles.

Likewise, the fact that it is not photosensitizing makes it particularly suitable for use in peeling treatments for aesthetic medicine during spring or warmer periods.

Mandelic acid: benefits and results

  • Cellular remodulator of the epidermis
  • Satinizing activity
  • Moisturizing action
  • Compacting action
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Gives immediate skin brightness
  • It improves the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid derived from willow bark. It has keratolytic properties, acts only on corneocytes, and is well tolerated by the underlying cells.

Similarly, given its affinity for epidermal lipids, it exerts its action inside the pore.

Salicylic acid: benefits and results

  • Thanks to its keratolytic action it facilitates the superficial removal of hyperpigmented cells
  • Helps the penetration of brightening active ingredients
  • It has a unifying action on the complexion.
DISCOVER THE PRODUCT SALICYLIC 2

chemical peels

Lactic acid

Lactic acid is a naturally occurring organic acid derived from fermented milk. It belongs to the alpha-hydroxy acid family. It is particularly used as a peel because it breaks down the adhesion between epidermal cells, thus promoting desquamation and exfoliation of the skin.

Lactic acid: benefits and results

  • Increases hydration of the dermis.
  • It breaks the connections between the corneocytes and the stratum corneum, effectively eliminating them.
  • It interacts with the receptors of fibroblasts, stimulating the production of
  • proteoglycans and collagen in the dermis.
DISCOVER THE LACTIC 40 PRODUCT

Pyruvic acid

Pyruvic acid is an alpha-keto acid that occurs naturally: it is found in apples, fermented fruit, vinegar, etc.

First of all, its action is characterized by the high lipophilicity of the principle, which makes it able to penetrate deeply quickly.

Furthermore, at the epidermal level, it performs an action similar to that of glycolic acid and, penetrating the dermis, stimulates the production of elastic fibres and glycoproteins.

Thanks to its multi-layered action, this acid acts simultaneously on:

  1. Epidermis
  2. Papillary dermis
  3. Pilosebaceous follicles

Pyruvic acid: benefits and results

  • Acantholytic action: decreases adhesion between corneocytes
  • Depigmenting: speeds up the elimination and replacement of hyperpigmented cells
  • Renewing: activates the neosynthesis of collagen and elastin in the dermis
  • Keratolytic
  • Sebostatic and antimicrobial
